Are Probiotics Good For Fatty Liver?

As you already know the liver is the main detoxifying organ of the body. It filters out dangerous poisons and drug residues from your blood and passes them out of the body through the colon. Now, if the colon is blocked it can lead to disease and sickness.

So taking Probiotics will indirectly be good for a fatty liver.

Bad BacteriaProbiotics in their nature bring back the good bacteria to the digestive system allowing the liver and other organs to work more efficiently. The intestinal tract contains billions of bacteria, both good and bad.

If it isn’t working properly you will have two main problems

You will have a difficult time digesting food properly and even if you do digest the food properly, if the intestinal tract is covered with hostile bacteria, you will end up only absorbing a small fraction of the nutrients that you need.

So you should take Probiotics with liver disease as it will get the digestive system to start working properly which in turn will help the liver.

What are the best Probiotics for liver function.

Before I discuss which is the best, I want to touch briefly on why these good bacteria stop working as we get older.

Over time they simply lose their vitality.
Changes in the acid/alkaline balance of the bowels which in turn reduces the growth of good bacteria.
If you take anti inflammatory drugs, these are very destructive to intestinal flora.                  Nearly all meat, chicken & dairy that you eat (other than organic) is packed full of antibiotics, which will actually destroy all the good bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract.
Cigarettes, alcohol & stress are also major contributaries.

These are just a few reasons. Believe me there are many more.

Which probiotics are the best?

There has been a great deal of research and trials throughout years and your probiotic should include recognised super strains of beneficial bacteria. You will want to choose a product that is developed using “full culture” processing.

The superstrains you will want to be looking for are

L.acidophilus
L.salivarius
L.rhamnosus
L.plantarum

These are the main four. In a good formula you will also find: streptococcus thermophilus, L.bulgaricus & L.casei

Finally, you will want to look for one that contains fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). These help promote the growth of good bacteria.  (For some of these bacteria like Bifidus, FOS can increase their effectiveness up to a 1000 times or more).

There you have it. Below is a product that has all of the above and I have used (and still do).

I know there are many different manufacturers and all will have similar ingredients but the one thing you want to be aware of when buying anything like this is something called “die off”.

The process in making Probiotics means some will die off and your capsules will not be as potent. A new process called LivBac has been introduced and seriously retards the amount of “die off” that occurs in the manufacturing process.
